Christian Music AStepFWD UK Awards

Rob Westall travelled to London for the inaugural AStepFWD Awards where his Christian number one song ‘Never Let Me Go,’ was nominated for rock song of the year.

The black tie event at St Paul's in Hammersmith celebrated those behind the Gospel and contemporary Christian music being produced in the UK, as well as honouring those who had paved the way for today’s worship leaders and artists over the past 40 years.

There were live music performances by Graham Kendrick, Sarah Teibo, Philippa Hanna, Noel Robinson, Lurine Cato MBE and Jason Nicholson Porter, Colney Morgan and New-Ye, Still Shadey and Reblah. Fellow Welsh man Dai Woolridge also performed part of his Christmas spoken word piece and presented the spoken word award.

Rob caught up with many of the guests on the red carpet and interviewed them for the AStepFWD contemporary worship chart show and a new Welsh Christian channel which launches next month.

He also presented the contemporary worship song of the year award, which was won by Philippa Hanna for her single ‘You’re Still God.’

Congratulations to Manchester band ‘Amongst Wolves’ who picked up the rock award.

“It was a wonderful event and a credit to O'Neil Dennis and everyone at AStepFWD and all the work they do to promote and encourage artists and worship leaders like myself,” said Rob.

“It was incredible to meet and interview many of the people I’ve met virtually over lockdown in person and so many people who are heroes and an inspiration to me in Christian music.

“Unfortunately ‘Never Let Me Go’ missed out on the rock song of the year award, but it was a great achievement to be a finalist and to be nominated.

“Congratualtions to Amongst Wolves and all the other nominees and thank you to everyone who voted for ‘Never Let Me Go’ it means an awful lot.”
